Recent DISH-acquisition Sling Media has begun shipping its long-awaited Slingbox PRO HD placeshifting device, the company's first product to deliver content in up to 1080i resolution either locally or over a network, from up to four different sources. Like past models, the $300 box accepts content from cable boxes, antennae, DVRs, or nearly any video source with the proper outputs: coaxial, component, composite, and S-video inputs are all present on the PRO HD, as well as RCA stereo and S/PDIF digital audio. However, unlike the Slingbox PRO, the latest box both accepts as well as transmits HD video, meaning that computers loaded with the SlingPlayer 2.0 client (currently only available for Windows machines) can for the first time display live and stored remote media in their native resolutions. The company also continues to sell the $230 PRO as well as a $180 single source model known as the Slingbox SOLO.
