Microsoft revealed that it will be officially unveiling its next-generation operating system -- dubbed Windows 7 (since it is the seventh major build in the OS series) -- at its Professional Developer's Conference next month in Los Angeles. Besides showing off new features of the system, which reportedly adds such groundbreaking technologies as touchscreen support, Redmond will also distribute pre-beta copies to select attendees. Expected to be commercially released somtime in 2010, Windows 7 will follow what can only be described as a difficult transition between Windows XP and last year's Windows Vista, with numerous critics having described the latter OS as a clumsy upgrade, and highly visible corporations -- including Microsoft-ally Intel -- simply refusing to make the switch.
