Fujifilm revealed a dual-lensed 3D FinePix camera system, along with a companion 3D LCD display, at the Photokina trade fair. The camera will use two image sensors, spaced widely apart to capture depth cues, and a Real Photo Processor 3D chip, supposedly capable of synchronizing the two imaging units within one-thousandth of a second. To view the output, Fuji will release an 8.4-inch digital photo frame that uses a "light direction control module" to vary its output based on the viewing angle, creating the illusion of 3D - a smaller screen using the same technology will be on the back of the camera. Besides creating 3D images, Fuji has speculated on future uses for the dual-sensor camera, including taking pictures simultaneously at different levels of zoom, at different exposures, or stitching the outputs together for a super-widescreen mode. There's no word yet on any specific models forthcoming, resolution, or pricing.
