Packard Bell, which withdrew from the US market in 2000, has announced its iPower GX, a stylish notebook designed for high-end gaming. Inside its graffiti-adorned case, the machine is powered by a quad-core Intel Core 2 CPU and runs a GeForce 9800M GTS with a full gigabyte of dedicated video RAM. Its 17-inch 1920 x 1200 screen is above full HD resolution, and can be complimented with an optional Blu-ray drive for HD movie playback. The $2,150 GX , which will be available in Europe next month, has the standard WiFi and memory card slots, and supports up to 4GB RAM and 640GB hard drive storage.

Pay $2,150 for a Packard Bell? I haven't heard that since circa 1994. I'm skeptical that any kind of comeback will be compelling to consumers.
