Digital audio company ION Audio has officially revealed Drum Rocker, its premium drum kit to accompany the Xbox 360 game Rock Band 2. The $300 accessory comes with four gum rubber drum pads, metal bass pedal, and two cymbals - a $50 third cymbal, along with a $40 second bass pedal, can be bought separately.

The set features velocity-sensitive pads, just like the standard RB2 drum kit, and has a sturdy metal frame. When connected to an external $360 Alesis DM5 drum module, the kit functions as a standard electronic drum controller with MIDI output, completely independent from the video game console.

The kit is available through ION's website now, with Wii and PlayStation versions forthcoming.

Next up: the 47-piece Neil Peart Special Edition Rock Band 2 drum kit for the low, low price of $2999!

In all seriousness though, making this a standalone MIDI controller is super smart. Even with the extra expense of the Alesis brain it's a competitive price for a digital kit that also doubles as a fun gaming peripheral.
