Canon has unveiled the 14.7-megapixel PowerShot SD990 and 10-megapixel PowerShot SD880 IS Digital ELPH cameras, both packing in new DIGIC 4 image processors. The 3.7x optical zoom SD990 claims the new title of highest resolution PowerShot, up from 12-megapixels of its predecessor the SD950. Also getting a bump, the 4x wide-angle optical zoom SD880 jumps from 8-megapixels and 3.8x optical zoom of the SD870. Both cameras make use of optical image stabilization and Servo AF, a form of continuous focus tracking for moving objects provided by the DIGIC 4. Each ELPH will be available in a variety of colors sometime in October with the SD990 estimated to cost $399 and the SD880 $299.

I am relatively new to digital photography and am thinking seriously about Cannon Products. Please explain what, " ELPH, " indicates in the current Cannon advertisements. Is ELPH unique to Cannon, or is this a technology available on other products ? Thanks.
