Intel has announced its first solid state drives targeted at laptops and MIDs. The rumored 1.8-inch X-18M and 2.5-inch X-25M drives will come in 80GB and 160GB sizes,  and use standard multilevel cell (MLC) NAND flash memory which may in turn lead to a lower cost for the consumer. The yet to be priced drives reportedly read data at 240MB per second, write at 170MB per second and have a unique wear-leveling design for higher reliability.
