A group of graduate students from around the world are in the midst of building an Apple II-based computer for developing countries that would retail for just $12, which they showed off at this month's MIT International Development Design Summit. While such inexpensive TV-connected PCs are currently available, they lack the internal storage of the MIT-unveiled project, which is also hoping to leverage growing wireless infrastructures to provide internet connectivity via tethered cellphones.
