Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

The first netbook to run Google's Android operating system has been spotted in China, to be produced by Guangzhou-based electronics manufacturer Skytone. Although underwhelming in terms of specs, the device will reportedly sell for as little as $100-150. Beyond the Android OS, the Skytone Alpha 680 will reportedly have a 7-inch, 800 x 480 resolution touchscreen that swivels to be used in tablet mode, a 533 MHz ARM processor, 128 MB RAM (with a maximum expansion only double that at 256 MB), 1 GB flash memory storage expandable to 4 GB, SD card slot, 2 USB ports, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and cellular data connectivity via GPRS/EDGE/WCDMA.

The Skytone Alpha 680 will launch in the third quarter of this year for a reported price of about $250.
