Originally released in Taiwan on October 16, 2007, the Asus Eee PC was arguably the first mini-notebook to popularize the netbook format of small, low-cost laptops primarily used for checking email, browsing the web, and basic word processing tasks. Available in models running either Windows XP or Linux, the Asus Eee PC 901 is available in six different colors and features an 8.9-inch screen with a 1024x600 pixel resolution, either a 12GB (Windows XP) or 20GB (Linux) flash-based solid-state drive, a 1.6 GHz Intel ATOM Processor, 1GB of RAM, an integrated webcam, 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, and an advertised battery life of up to 8 hours, all in a package weighing 2.43 pounds.
