While the main foot soldier in the Apple army is now the aluminum MacBook released in late 2008, the old white MacBook is still available, and at a lower price than its younger siblings. Originally introduced in 2006, it features a 13-inch LCD screen with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, just like the newer models. That said, the screen isn't quite vibrant as what you'll find on other MacBooks.
The hardware specifcations are also a bit less beefy. Most notably, it features an integrated Intel graphics chip instead of the far more powerful GeForce 9400M included in newer models. Thanks to a recent refresh, the central processor clocks in at 2.13 GHz in the default configuration. You'll also get two gigabytes of RAM and a 160 GB hard disk drive.
The white MacBook runs runs the acclaimed Mac OS X Leopard operating system like all other Apple computers, but when the much-anticipated Snow Leopard update is released later this year, this system may be deprecated, as its graphics chip can't handle the new interface features that will be introduced.
For now, though, you can pick it up directly from Apple for $999 — $100 cheaper than the low end aluminum model.
