Originally introduced on May 16, 2006, Apple's MacBook is the company's entry level notebook running the Mac OS X operating system, available in either black or white, and sporting a 13.3" glossy LCD screen with a maximum resolution of 1280x800 pixels. The black MacBook, sometimes colloquially referred to as the Apple BlackBook, is priced highest at $1499 for the default configuration, which includes a 2.4Ghz Intel Core Duo 2 processor, 2GBs of memory (upgradable up to 4GB), a 250GB hard drive, and a DVD-RW drive. The "mid-model" MacBook comes in white, costs $1299, and only really differs from the Black MacBook in color and in a slightly smaller 160GB hard drive. The entry level MacBook costs $1099, runs on a slower 2.1Ghz Intel Core Duo 2 processor, includes a smaller 120GB hard drive, and lacks the DVD-R of its two siblings, instead having a DVD player / CD-RW combo drive.

All three models weigh five pounds and measure 1.08 x 12.78 x 8.92 (H x W x D) when closed. Additionally, every MacBook features an integrated iSight video camera, built-in 802.11n WiFi (compatible with 802.11a/b/g), built-in Bluetooth 2.0, 2 USB ports, a Firewire 400 port, and a Mini-DVI port that with the appropriate adapter can support either S-Video out to a TV or an external monitor at up to 1900x1200 pixels via either a VGA or DVI connection.
