Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

Announced at WWDC 2009, Apple's 13-inch MacBook Pro laptop is a first. Previously, only 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro models were available. This new 13-inch MacBook Pro replaces higher-end MacBooks introduced in 2008.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro is available now in two basic configurations. At $1,199, you'll get a 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, two gigabytes of RAM, 160 GB of hard drive space, and an integrated GeForce 9400M graphics chip. At $1,499 it's 2.53 GHz, 4 GB of RAM, and a 250 GB hard drive.

Both models feature an SD card slot, a backlit keyboard, and FireWire 800. They also have the same high-power battery technology of 2009's 17-inch MacBook Pro. Unfortunately, this battery is also unremovable without a trip to the Apple store. With 1,000 charges promised before it kicks the bucket, though, that might not be a problem for most users.

These models also promise 60% better color gamut in their displays and are upgradeable to 8 GB of RAM, an honor previously reserved for the 17-inch MacBook Pros, but now available across the entire line.
