Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

After Apple essentially moved its existing unibody MacBooks to the high-end MacBook Pro line, the only member left in the family was the severely outdated white and plastic model. But no longer; this unibody model finally replaces the old standard. It's built in the same style as the upscale unibody models, but it has a glossy white finish instead of silver.

The most notable improvements are arguably the promised seven hours of battery life, the MacBook Pro-esque glass multi-touch trackpad, and the LED-backlit screen.

The specs under the hood have seen a bit of a boost also: an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM with an option to upgrade to 4 GB, a 250 GB hard drive, and an NVIDIA 9400M graphics chip.

The 2009 MacBook is available now for a price of — you guessed it — $999.
