One of Sony's next-generation Blu-ray players supporting BD-Live, or Profile 2.0, the BDP-S550 is reasonably priced for a featureset including 1080p output with DVD upscaling, 7.1-channel audio, Dolby TrueHD internal decoding and BRAVIA Sync. BD-Live is an optional enhancement above and beyond the base mandatory Profile 1.1 Blu-ray specification, allowing for downloadable and interactive content with supported films. The BDP-S550 includes 1GB of internal storage to accomodate downloaded content locally, which often includes additional trailers, commentary and other extras from studios. The BDP-S550 features discrete stereo and 7.1-channel audio outputs, coax digital audio out, component and composite video outs, S-video out and HDMI out.
