Offering full HD 1080p quality playback and 24p video output, Sony's BDP-S300 is an entry level Blu-ray and DVD player featuring HDMI output, 7.1 channel surround sound, and upscaling for boosted image quality on regular DVDs. Among its extra features, the S300 has Sony's auto-sync support for instant connections to Bravia HDTVs, a choice of several different movie modes for users to explore, and the option to play CDs over the audio system. In October 2008, Sony updated the BDP-S300  to allow Dolby TrueHD decoding for improved quality, along with better compatibility for Java updates via Blu-ray disks. The player sells for a retail price of $399.99, though discounts are applicable through various stores.
