The Yahama MCR-330 was introduced simultaneously with a group of three other mini sound systems (MCS-1330, MCR-230, and CRX-430), all of which share a similar feature set with minor variations. All four models come with a pair of speakers, and include a USB port and a CD player. While previous models included an external Yamaha Universal iPod Dock, these four have the iPod docking station built-in. Also new to the lineup is iPod compatibility which can be controlled from the mini system's remote.
The MCR-330 and its sibling, the MCR-230, concede superior features to some of the others in exchange for affordability. This model produces 2 x 20W of output power, and while that isn't as robust as a high-end home theater AV system, the units do have versatile compatibility with various CD formats, including CD-R/RW, MP3, and WMA. Both systems include speakers with a 2.5cm tweeter and 10cm woofer, and in fact, the only difference between the MCR-330 and MCR-230 is the finish that comes on the speakers. The 330 comes with a piano black finish, the latter has a more affordable black grain.
