Logitech's Squeezebox Classic is a network-enabled audio player component for home stereo systems. Users can stream songs stored on computers on the local network to the Squeezebox via Ethernet or 802.11g connections, or tune in to supported internet radio stations, such as Pandora. The player has headphone, analog RCA, and digital optical and coaxial hookups for connection to a receiver, with the analog output coming through its 24-bit Burr-Brown digital-to-analog converter. The Classic handles most compressed audio formats, including MP3, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, and WMA, in addition to high-quality Apple Lossless and FLAC files.
The included software can send selected RSS feeds to the Squeezebox for display on its vacuum fluorescent front panel. An unexpected feature for a media player, Logitech has enabled the device to act as a wireless bridge, giving an Ethernet-only device access to a WiFi network. Logitech's software package for the player supports Windows, Mac, and Linux systems.
