Sony's XEL-1 compact 11-inch widescreen is said to be the first commercially available OLED (organic light-emitting diode)-based TV. According to Sony, OLED technology promises improved constrast ratio (1,000,000:1), wider viewing angles, and better color reproduction while eliminating the need for a backlight. At an astonishing 3mm thickness and weighing 4.3 lbs, the set features 960 x 540 resolution, an ATSC tuner and QAM digital-cable capability, and three picture modes that can be independently adjusted per input. Priced at $2499.99, the XEL-1 includes two HDMI ports, an RF-style input for antenna or cable, and a memory stick slot.
