Sharp's AQUOS LX series of LCD HDTVs feature white LED backlighting technology and UV2A*2 photo-alignment technology, which Sharp claims will improve the vibrancy of whites and the depth of blacks. The benefit is an impressive 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio — normally a number you'd associate with fancy new OLED technology, not LCDs.
Sharp also brags that the LX series consumes 30% less energy than its predecessor the GX series. Eco-friendliness and energy conservation are all the rage in gadgets these days.
The LX series is launching in Japan on November 10th, 2009. North American and European launches haven't been announced, but you can bet that a similar model (if not this exact one) will arrive in the West at some point.
