Panasonic introduced the Viera TH-50PZ850U in May 2008. This top-of-the-line 50 inch plasma TV brings 1080p resolution, which at 1920 x 1080 pixels, is the sharpest picture available in standard HD. The TV also claims a 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio – a huge number even for a high-end TV – which should produce deep blacks that help contrasting bright colors pop off the screen. The TH-50PZ850U received a few technical upgrades over the TH-50PZ85U. The former has more shades of gradation, so more in-between colors can show up on screen. The former also has an extra HDMI input, and a more elaborate sound system, with woofers and a passive radiator (the same speaker array as the older TH-50PZ800U), all of which can support BBE VIVA HD3D sound. The newest addition for the TH-50PZ850U that the TH-50PZ85U and the TH-50PZ800U lack is VIERA Cast, which connects the TV via a LAN port to limited web-based features like YouTube and Google's Picasa. Four HDMI inputs, among others, can adapt this HDTV to a high-end home theater system. In fact, this model works with Panasonic's VIERA Link, which is designed to network certain compatible devices, such as sound systems and digital cable boxes, so they can all be controlled with a single remote. THX mode is absent, which TH-50PZ800U has.
