Released in June 2008, the nüvi 880 added to Garmin's selection of high-end GPS devices for automobiles. The unit is comparatively compact, measuring at 4.9 x 3.1 x 0.7 inches and 6.2 ounces. City Navigator NT street maps of North America come pre-loaded, along with over one million points of interest for locations like ATMs, gas stations, and restaurants, and can provide turn-by-turn instructions to navigate the driver. The unit can also store up to 500 user-selected locations, and can calculate routes based on selected parameters like faster time, shorter distance, or avoiding highways. The nüvi 880 can also run the subscription-based MSN Direct service, which receives updates for travel information like weather, local event news, and gas prices. Garmin has also expanded the voice command function to perform 30 separate functions, such as "find address" and "where am I?" Voice commands can also control the music player and MSN Direct. Bluetooth lets the nüvi 880 to synchronize with cell phones for hands-free calling, as well as transfer of address books.
