WWAN

WWAN, short for wireless wide area network, describes network technologies that are deployed over a large geographical area, typically consisting with a large amount of users, and are implemented wirelessly. WWAN technologies, like HSDPA, UMTS, EvDO and others, are typically deployed by cellular telephone providers, though the use of the term doesn't relegate itself to simply cell phone providers. WWANs typically provide access to the Internet and other data services, and are typically high-speed, though legacy WWAN technologies like GPRS have existed for quite a while.
