Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

WLAN

A wireless LAN, or WLAN, is a type of local area network that uses wireless technology. While initially very expensive, wireless technology has been widely adopted in home and office LANs as prices have fallen. A WLAN functions by having client computers connect to an access point, typically a router, that is connected to an outside internet source. Clients connected to an access point can see other clients connected to the same access point, depending on security and privacy settings.

Many coffee shops, restaurants, and hotels have adopted WLANs to provide network access for their patrons; these networks usually require payment to use, but are sometimes complimentary.
