WiFi hotspot

A WiFi hotspot is a physical location where wireless networks using 802.11 (WiFi) are available. Typically, the term WiFi hotspot refers to commercial WiFi access points in public locations like coffee shops or public parks, though the term doesn't imply whether said access will cost extra. Some WiFi hotspots don't require any sort of service agreement, and are simply provided as a convenience to laptop toting patrons.

T-Mobile operates a series of T-Mobile Hotspot locations across the United States. Initially started in Starbucks Coffee chains, T-Mobile charges users per hour, per day or per month to access the internet using 802.11b. AT&T has recently followed suit, offering laptop and iPhone users access to hotspots inside of Starbucks as well as other locations around the United States.
