Virtual Folder
Virtual folders are a way of organizing related files into groups. Computer users designate criteria by which to organize their files (for example, by file type, date, or by project), and virtual folders then automatically associate those files with one another. Virtual folders are virtual in that they don’t exist in a set location, but are more like tags associating whatever files a user designates. In Mac OS X, the virtual folder system is called Smart Folders; in Windows a pseudo virtual folder system exists which allows you to save searches in its search function as “Search Folders.”
