Video on demand

Video on demand, sometimes referred to by its short name of VoD or VOD, refers to video which can be delivered at any time according to the user's preference. VOD systems have been coupled with satellite and cable systems in recent years, which traditionally have been one way video delivery systems. Most video on demand services utilize some form of computer network delivery, typically to a set-top box which then translates the digital signal into a watchable video.

VOD can also refer to online services, like Hulu, YouTube or NBC.com, that allow users the ability to select different clips of video and watch them on-demand.
