URL
URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. It is essentially the address of a web site. Also known as a link. Not to be confused with a URI, or Uniform Resource Identifier. The URL is specifically the location that a visitor uses to access a website. It is quite a bit like a street address. If you look at the URL http://www.obsessable.com you will find a few distinct parts:
http:// is the protocol, which means this is the hypertext transfer protocol.
www. is the prefix, but can be a subdomain like mail. or apps.
obsessable is the hostname, or the name of the site you are visiting
.com is the domain, specifying what type of site this is, com = commercial, org = organization and so on.
