universal remote control

A universal remote control is a remote control designed to work with multiple components, usually those of a complex entertainment or media system. The remote can be programmed with separate codes to control devices such as A/V receivers, cable boxes, TVs, DVRs, Blu-ray or DVD players, wireless media connections, and more. While some remotes require a manual programming of each devices, others automatically detect and assign codes to various components. Universal remote controls can use either infrared signals to communicate with compatible devices, or RF signals, which do not require the precise aiming of IF remotes.
