SIM card

A SIM card, short for subscriber identity module, is a component of GSM cell phone networks that, when used with an IMEI number, allows a subscriber to use network resources. SIM cards are completely interchangable between phones, and allow greater flexibility of devices on GSM networks than CDMA allows on its networks. SIM cards identify the subscriber's account information to the cell phone tower, and determine rate plan and billing information to be used. In some Asian countries, cell phones can support more than one SIM card simultaniously, allowing a user to have multiple phone numbers tied to the same phone, or select a pay-as-you-go plan based on whichever plan is cheapest for the specific time / locale that the user is calling from.
