server
A server in computing is any computer dedicated to providing services through a network, either locally or through the Internet. Services can include hosting for a website, an online game server, providing access to a database, redirecting connections through a proxy, acting as a mail server for e-mail, and more.
Typically servers run on operating systems designed and optimized specifically for speed and stability. Multiple servers are often stored in racks, each computer adding processing power to the overall cluster via parallel computing.
