Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

SDK

An acronym for Software Developers Kit, an SDK is a piece of "middleware" that allows developers to create applications and software for specific platforms. SDKs are released by manufacturers in an effort to spur development, and can be offered free of charge, free with licensing restraints, or manufacturers can charge to give access to the SDK. SDKs in the mobile space have recently come to the fore front, with Apple's iPhone SDK being released earlier in the year allowing third-party developers to create iPhone and iPod touch applications without needing to bypass Apple's security. Google's Android operating system also offers an SDK, which, before the T-Mobile G1 was released, was the only way people could sample the Android OS.
