Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

Release candidate

The term release candidate is used to describe the version of a piece of software that is ready to be released. By this point in the software release life cycle, the developers have designed, coded, and tested the software through alpha and beta phases. The term golden master was used by Apple Inc. to note their products in the release candidate stage. Other synonymous terms for release candidate are gamma and delta, while omega and zenith indicate the final testing stages before a product becomes a release candidate. The name given to the product after it is agreed that no new source code will be added is code complete. While the implementation of the software in the public market is set to follow code complete, the development team may still use small changes to fix defects and bugs within the software. The shipped product is referred to as release to manufacturing or release to marketing (RTM).
