Refresh rate

The refresh rate of a TV is how many times the moving image is renewed per second, a number express in hertz. While the normal refresh rate for many TVs was once 60 Hz, or 60 times per second, TVs are beginning to move to higher rates to reduce judder and play films at native playback speeds. Since film is originally recorded at 24 frames per second, multiples of 24 result in smoother playback (video, at 30fps, does not have the same problem). Certain TVs have a 72 Hz frame rate ability that switches on to show film content more clearly, while high-end HDTVs have 120 Hz refresh rates to smooth both video and movie frame formats. Some companies may also use interpolation to add filler frames for even smooth playback.
