P2P

P2P stands for "peer to peer", and refers to a type of computer network. A P2P network is one in which all associated computers leverage the power of their shared connection to make the distribution of files much quicker. In the conventional Internet model, a user typically connects to a particular server to gain access to files via a one-to-one relationship. Because the user must compete with other users for the bandwidth to access the same file, which might be being served to any number of other users, there is a drain on the server's resources and the connection becomes slower for every user involved. However in a P2P network, a many-to-many relationship turns clients into servers as well, so many more nodes on the network are distributing the load of sharing the desired file. The P2P network makes download times faster by allowing many different computers to host the same file, sharing the workload of file transfer between all associated computers. A popular example of a P2P network is the BitTorrent network.
