Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

Ovi Store

The Ovi Store is Finnish cell phone manufacturer Nokia's answer to other popular mobile application download centers from Apple with the iPhone App Store, Google's Android Market, and the Microsoft Marketplace for Mobile. Launching in May 2009, the Ovi Store will offer downloads of applications, games, podcasts, videos, ringtones, and widgets for your Nokia cell phone. The Ovi Store will be included with the forthcoming Nokia N97, but if you've got an older phone that runs on the Symbian S40 or S60 platforms, you'll likely be able to add the store to your device come May.

Some new twists to the concept of mobile application portal include location awareness and a "social discovery" feature that will bubble up the applications being used by your friends. The store will make download recommendations to you based on what you've downloaded and liked before, as well as where you currently are.
