Operating system
An operating system (OS), is the component of a computer that allows the user to interface with the computer's hardware. The OS lets users manage files, run applications, and get information about the status of the computer, among other functions.
The OS is typically manipulated in one of two ways: via a command line interface (or CLI), where all commands to the system are executed as text, or via graphical user interface (or GUI), where commands are represented by graphical elements like icons and pull-down menus.
Some of the more popular operating systems in use today are Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS, and Linux.
