OLED

OLED stands for organic light emitting diode, a display technology that offers significant benefits over LCD or CRT technology. An OLED panel consists of an emissive organic material that, when supplied with an electrical current, can produce a bright flat panel display with better contrast than an LCD and a response time far faster than is even required for video applications. Because an OLED display does not require backlighting, it can be made much thinner and lighter than a comparable LCD or Plasma as well as consuming about 20% less power. OLED displays also have an extremely wide viewing angle at 170 degrees with little to no loss of color and clarity even at extreme offsets from center.

The biggest disadvantages to OLED displays include the relatively limited lifetime of the organic materials and price in the marketplace, with even small screens clocking in at several thousand US dollars.
