NXE

The NXE or New Xbox Experience was a major update to the Xbox 360 user experience that launched to the public on November 19, 2008. The new features included the following:

  • Netflix streaming from a subscriber's instant queue
  • The Guide: a mini version of the old bladed dashboard available as an overlay and jumping off point to other parts of the system
  • Disk to drive game installs: the ability to install complete titles onto the hard drive for theoretically quicker access and shorter load times
  • Party system: the ability to form a group of friends and move together through multiple games with seamless voice chat experience
  • My Xbox: improved graphical browsing of your games and achievements, your friends and their avatars, and your other local content including videos, music and pictures
  • Marketplace: enhanced browsing of the Games and Video Marketplaces, spotlighted content, and Community Games
  • Community Games: a new type of marketplace akin to Xbox Live Arcade's downloadable game format but populated by independent and amateur developers' titles created with Microsoft's XNA Game Studio developer engine
