Mirror (server)

In computing terms, a mirror is a secondary (or tertiary, or greater) server that contains information identical to that on the primary server. For example, if the primary server hosts a particular website, with all its pages, files, and related information, the mirror will contain an exact duplicate of whatever parts of the website need redundancy. Among the more popular reasons to mirror a server are to balance the load for a popular website, to act as a backup server in the event that the primary server fails, and to provide a source for faster file downloads in specific geographical locations.
