Mini DisplayPort

Mini DisplayPort, a derivative of DisplayPort, is a display interface standard. The standard, which is significantly smaller than  DisplayPort, includes a 20-pin cable and the port it connects to. Used to connect digital displays to a computer, Mini DisplayPort is able to accommodate for resolutions up to 2560 x 1600 and can also, with the an adapter, drive displays with VGA or DVI interfaces. Mini DisplayPort was introduced October 14, 2008 as a replacement for DVI, present on many laptops. It is found on Apple products such as the MacBooks released in late 2008. This has given rise to some frustration as a display with a DisplayPort connector cannot be connected to a new MacBook, as Apple offers no Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter.
