Megapixel

Megapixel is a term referring to one million pixels. Most frequently used to denote the resolution capabilities of a digital camera's image sensor, megapixel (MP) can also refer to the number of pixels in a digital image or the number of display elements in a computer monitor or television. In any of these applications, the greater the number of pixels present, the higher the image resolution, and thus the quality of the image, will be. The quality of a digital print is initially dependent upon the number of megapixels a given camera can record, but a printer capable of printing an image at only 600 DPI (dots per inch) will be unable to reproduce a 6MP image in its native resolution.
