Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

Linux

Linux (pronounced lyn-ucks) refers to the Linux Operating System, an open source variant of the UNIX operating system. Originally conceived by Linus Torvalds, a Finnish software developer, Linux has grown in popularity among developers around the world due to its open nature and extremely customizable nature. Linux is the basis for many different hardware platforms, including servers, mobile phones and other embedded devices. Linux as a consumer operating system hasn't caught on with a mainstream audience, due largely in part to its verbose nature, though some forms of Linux have recently seen more consumer use with the proliferation of Netbooks.
