JPG
JPG, or JPEG, is an image file format standard commonly used by digital cameras and on the web. Short for Joint Photographic Experts Group and pronounced "jay-peg,", JPG is a lossy storage format in that it compresses images to smaller file sizes, discarding some image information in the process. The JPG standard supports 16 million colors and is ideal for photographs and complex graphics but does not work well on line drawings, lettering and simple graphics.
