Geotagging

Geotagging is the act of adding coordinates to photos, typically signifying where a photo was taken on the Earth. When photos are taken, compatible cameras or external devices get GPS coordinates from a compatible receiver (sometimes integrated directly into a camera) to define the physical location on where the photo was taken. Geotagged photos allow users to easily share different pictures of similar landmarks, extrapolate data to share with friends and family and can also help organize batches of photo together with another level of metadata. Geotagging isn't a feature in most cameras, though many add-ons have sprung up to support the practice.
