fps

Frames per second or fps refers to the number of unique still images or frames present that comprise a single second of a moving image. The term applies to film and video content as well as computer graphics, and is an expression of frame rate, or the rate at which still images are captured or played back in film or video content.

Monitors and LCD TVs typically measure frame rate using a different but analogous terminology, hertz, or cycles per second. A 60 Hz television plays back video content at 60 cycles or frames per second.

In video gaming, FPS can also refer to a genre of game called first-person shooters typified by a first-person perspective and gun-centric combat mechanics.
