Firewire 800

Firewire 800 is a cable and interface standard for transmitting data between devices at up to 800 megabits per second. Firewire 800 replaces Firewire 400, and while the two standards are compatible, Firewire 800 uses a nine pin connector that differs from Firewire 400's traditional 6 pin connector, requiring an adapter for full interoperability. Apple's late-2008 model MacBook Pro computers dropped support for Firewire 400, and instead only have one port for Firewire 800, requiring users to purchase adapters to use the computer with miniDV cameras and other hardware supporting Firewire 400.
