Google Chrome OS unveiled, released to open source community

FAT32

FAT32, short for File Allocation Table 32-bit edition, is an antiquated file system popular for its cross-compatible nature between Windows and MacintoshOS. FAT32 is a replacement for the original MS-DOS file system, FAT16. FAT-based file structures, being one of the first modern computing file structures, have very strict limitations. For instance, FAT32 cannot handle files larger than 4GB in size, preventing many video editors from capturing large chunks of data. FAT32 also has a partition limitation of 2TB in size, unlike subsequent file systems like NTFS and HFS. FAT32 is seen as a small disk storage solution, and Microsoft, owner of the spec, has even prevented Windows users from formatting disks larger than 32GB in size on modern versions of Windows, despite the fact that the file system can handle larger partitions.
