ETF
ETF is an acronym for Early Termination Fee and is typically used to refer to a fee on top of cellular phone providers contracts when a user opts out early. Carriers maintain ETFs prevent users from switching networks after acquiring typically expensive cell phones at a discount, but users feel restrained since the fees can be upwards of $150. Some carriers have moved to pro rating the ETF, allowing users to opt out with a less expensive termination fee, though the pro rated amounts vary wildly from carrier to carrier.
