e-paper

E-paper, also known as electronic paper, refers to emerging technology that strives to create a flexible, paper-like film substance that can be used to display an ink medium which can be erased and replaced with different types of information. This reusable e-paper is intended to save on the production of normal paper and save money with such uses as e-books, electronic newspapers, portable and durable signs, and reusable advertising banners. While some e-paper prototypes uses electro-wetting technology that applies electric currents to water-and-ink pixels, other devices use electrophoric displays that rearrange microscopic pigment particles with electrically charged plates.  In both cases, the goal is to create a low-power, easily manufactured, easily changeable interface complex enough to form pictures, text, and in some cases colored images or video.

Gyricon, by Xerox and 3M, and E Ink, by Lucent and E Ink, are two examples of current prototype e-paper products.
